Chowders -vs.- Bisques – two different kinds of soup styles served at The Soup Spot

Chowders, bisques, different kinds of soup, delicious soup recipes, specialty soups

http://soupspotpa.com

Chowders and bisques are some of the specialty soups at The Soup Spot, served in many different ways. They can both be made as vegetarian, meat, or seafood but are cream based so vegan is out of the question. Of the two different kinds of soup, I prefer chowders but the bisques are very good too.

Bisques are cream based, as well as chowders but they are generally pureed to incorporate all the flavor in every bite. The broth is the very key ingredient in making bisques and a lot of time is required for it to simmer, to be sure you get as much flavor as possible. They are also thickened with a cornstarch slurry to give it that smooth creamy texture. Some of the delicious soup recipes made at The Soup Spot are bisques like tomato, seafood, or cheese.

Chowders are a more hearty soup than bisques and made with larger chunks of ingredients. They always contain potatoes, onions, celery, and garlic but the main ingredient can change. Some of my favorite chowders at The Soup Spot contain clams, mushrooms, bacon, or chicken. Most of them are cream based but not all of them are; Manhattan clam chowder, which is a tomato base.

Of all the delicious soup recipes at The Soup Spot, the chowders tend to be my favorites of the day. Whether you like chowder, bisque, stew, or something “brothy”, the specialty soups here will be sure to please. Be sure not to miss your favorite soup at The Soup Spot and join the email list at thesoupspot@verizon.net  so you can receive all the specials of the day.

Making soups – kitchen prep is a must to create delicious soup

http://soupspotpa.com

Making soups at the soup spot begins after lunch and starts with kitchen prep. One of the keys to Chef Randy’s delicious soup recipes is love. That is the only common ingredient that he has when making soups.

At The Soup Spot, there are no written soup recipes for any of the delicious soups that Randy creates. That’s one thing that makes The Soup Spot a must when dining in Harrisburg Pa., not to mention the delicious soup, sandwiches, service, and atmosphere.  Don’t miss the Soup Spot when dining in Harrisburg, Pa.

I love seafood – my personal favorite top 10 seafood soups

I love seafood, Top 10 seafood, seafood bisque recipes, tomato based soups, lobster chowder

I love seafood – my personal favorite top 10 seafood soups

I love seafood as much as anybody else. From sushi to crab cakes, I LOVE seafood. So it wasn’t  easy choosing my top 10 seafood soups. From seafood bisque recipes to tomato based soups like Manhattan clam chowder… So many choices and so little time to taste them all, so if I leave one out, my apologies.

Where to start? With the exception of my favorite I have no particular order, and I enjoy them all the same. Lets start with a very popular soup. Lobster bisque, in my opinion, is a highly overrated soup  and does not make my top 10 seafood soups. Its brother, lobster chowder, definitely makes the list however. The bisque is a lighter soup with very little substance as opposed to the lobster chowder, which contains not only lobster but potatoes, onions and celery and is a much heartier meal than the bisque.

Next I would go with the roasted red pepper, gouda and crab (or scallop). Both have a great red pepper flavor- not too overpowering though. Each one is a top 10 seafood soup of mine made for your enjoyment at The Soup Spot. All the professionals say seafood and cheese don’t mix, but I disagree; these soups are great!

On to some Cajun soups. Another 2 soups in my top 10 are shrimp etouffee and frog leg Creole. Both have a little spice, and when served over rice both are outstanding (and staples at The Soup Spot). Also in the Cajun category, we have gator gumbo. This has to be on the list. Even though it contains chicken and Andouille sausage I consider it to be a seafood soup. Gumbo is my favorite Cajun meal in general, but the gator gumbo  stands atop them all.

I can’t leave out Cream of crab, thickened with a blonde roux (unlike all seafood bisque recipes which are done with a cornstarch slurry). It is a much heartier soup with just as much flavor and is on my list of ten. Another would have to be shrimp gnocchi: a lighter, broth based soup with a strong garlic and white wine flavor containing my favorite pasta- gnocchi. With some spinach and parmesan cheese- Delicious.

Now we have come to my personal favorite soup of all time, let alone my favorite seafood soup: New England clam chowder. I love this soup so much that anywhere I go I order it, trying to find the best version; and my recipe is still the best in my opinion. It is the white clam chowder if you still don’t know by now (Ace Ventura).

All in all, I love seafood. All kinds of it, from clams and crabs to alligator and frog legs. Seafood is a great food for entrees, appetizers and soups. Come on down to the Soup Spot and enjoy some great seafood bisque recipes, or even lobster chowder. Whatever your top 10 seafood soups might be, the Soup Spot is sure to satisfy!

Employee discipline can be a very touchy subjects at restaurants in Harrisburg or for that matter, anywhere! Chef Randy covers the crazy boss dynamic in this video showcasing how it is bad to lose your keys at The Soup Spot. Everything cost money it is important to watch every penny, and in a tough economy some times you have to show a little tough love.

No employees were harmed much in the making of this video. Turn on your sense of humor or turn off this video, Ryan did and regrets it.
After the disciplinary action you could hear Ryan crying from downtown Harrisburg.  Since this measure was taken the soup spot employees haven’t lost anything let alone keys. Making The Soup Spot one of the finest and fun restaurants in Harrisburg to work.

Best vegetarian soups – restaurants with vegetarian options in Harrisburg

To find some of the best vegetarian soups in Harrisburg look no further than The Soup Spot. Offering at least two vegetarian soups everyday, The Soup Spot is a great choice when looking for restaurants with vegetarian options, let alone good vegan foods. The Soup Spot also offers some of the best vegan soup in Harrisburg PA.

Easy vegetarian soups are a dime a dozen but chances are The Soup Spot offers some that you have never heard of like Cream of Onion and Grilled Cheese Tomato Bisque. Located in midtown Harrisburg, a great arts community, vegetarian soups are a must. So many people are concerned with their health and restaurants with vegetarian options, like The Soup Spot, are a perfect fit.

In my opinion the best vegetarian soups served at The Soup Spot are Beer Broccoli Cheddar, Irish Cheese and  Peasant soup. Peasant consists of mainly cabbage, onions and tomatoes. Not the most exotic ingredients, hence the name peasant, but one of the most delicious, easy vegetarian soups to make. I found the trick to a great Peasant soup is Tabasco and brown sugar. Without it, its not the same. It also falls into the category of good vegan foods for that strict vegan diet.

Your cheese soups like Wisconsin Cheddar or Broccoli Cheese are a little more difficult to make and not always vegetarian. For example, Panera Breads’ Broccoli Cheddar is made with a chicken stock. So if you’re a vegetarian searching for the best vegetarian soups or even good vegan foods make sure you read carefully or come to The Soup Spot where there is no doubt.

No matter what your diet may be, The Soup Spot has a large variety of soups sandwiches and salads to choose from. Vegetarian, vegan, seafood or meat soups, any of these you’ll find at The Soup Spot and are all delicious and worth the trip to midtown Harrisburg. Coming from the West Shore area, its just a 5 minute drive across the Susquehanna river to satisfy your taste buds with healthy vegetarian options.

Rabbit stew – a scene from the movie fatal attraction done by The Soup Spot (parody)

Gourmet soup recipes – more of your favorite soups at The Soup Spot

Chef Randy has many different ideas and gourmet soup recipes to satisfy whatever you might crave. From ordinary ingredients like corn and potatoes to the extraordinary like python or wild boar, all of his delicious soup recipes will make your Harrisburg dining experience like no other.

The focal point for today is the hard to find ingredients like python and bear. When working with these kinds of foods it is important to know their flavor and texture before you start to create your dish. Once you’ve done your tasting let your imagination go to work. Your lighter meats and veggies, such as alligator are great for bisques and cream soups. The heartier ingredients like bear are great for stew and chili.

Vegetables and fruits can be exotic too, two examples like star fruit or Bok Choy. These items can also be incorporated to create some of your favorite soups. I know that most people don’t like brussel sprouts but you can change their mind with a very simple cream of brussel sprout that is “out of this world” delicious and just might become one of your own favorite soups.

To make an unusual soup, you don’t have to have unusual ingredients, it can be done with everyday items such as coffee or apples.  Sometimes just an imagination and a love of food is enough to create some fantastic soups. Some of the favorite soups at The Soup Spot are apple pie (a great soup ala mode) and cordon bleu. If you can dream it, you can make it one of your own delicious soup recipes.

Amazing soups can come from the simplest to the most exotic ingredients, and The Soup Spot is a great place to find them all.  From ‘Kanga’ Stew and Python Gumbo to Chicken Noodle and Broccoli Cheddar you’ll be sure to find some your favorite soups at The Soup Spot. We like to experiment here at The Soup Spot and you can too, just find your ingredient you want to try and let your imagination do the rest.
